President & Founder
Julie Wright is president and founder of (W)right On Communications Inc. With over 25 years of experience, Julie leads client strategy, crisis communications and oversees the team at (W)right On. Prior to founding the agency in 1998, Julie served at several public relations agencies and in-house as Director of Marketing for a financial institution. She began her career as a journalist, working as a radio news anchor. Today, her knowledge and skill in traditional PR strategies and marketing communications is matched with her social media and digital marketing know-how.
Julie is a past chair of the San Diego North Economic Development Council and the President’s University Council, a community advisory group at California State University San Marcos. She has also served on the board of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation and the advisory board of hospitality software company RSI International.
Julie was named a Woman Who Means Business by the San Diego Business Journal and a 40 Under 40 honoree by San Diego Metropolitan. She received the Fran Aleshire Award for Community Leadership from Leadership North County.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and a Master of Journalism degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Western Ontario. CEO & Managing Partner
Grant Wright has more than 25 years of senior management experience including external affairs and business development leadership roles for major American and Canadian corporations and their subsidiaries. With extensive skills in all aspects of communications including media, regulatory, governmental, community outreach and labor relations; he has also led major infrastructure project development, M&A due diligence and implementation management, marketing and brand development, strategic planning and business plan development for small through Fortune 500 companies.
As CEO and Managing Partner, Grant provides oversight and senior-level communications and business counsel for the agency’s client partners while also overseeing agency management and administration.
Grant holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and an MBA in Marketing and Finance. Professionally, he has been involved in corporate and not-for-profit boards of directors and is currently a Board Director of the San Diego Venture Group (regional venture capital ecosystem). Grant was also named a Finalist for the San Diego Business Journal’s 2016 and 2017 Most Admired CEO Awards. During his free time, Grant enjoys scuba diving, hiking and being a mentor for university students entering their professional career. He is also a commercial pilot licensed in both Canada and the U.S. and is the founding board chairman of the now 5,000+ member Southern California Aviation Association that has provided more than $400,000 in student scholarship grants in the past five years alone.
Practice Area Director
With eight years of experience, Chance Shay contributes strong program leadership through innovative communications strategies, established media relationships and cutting-edge outreach tactics.
As Practice Area Director overseeing (W)right On Communications’ B2B and Land Use and Development practices, Chance has advanced communications programs for B2B and B2C clients ranging in size from local startups to local governments and national brands to international enterprises. He has helped client partners in the technology, entertainment, energy & utility and transportation industries. He is particularly fond of his work with philanthropic foundations, developing strategies to fulfill their mission statement while inspiring others to take action. Chance is an alumni of San Diego State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and recognition on the Dean’s List with academic honors. In his free time, Chance enjoys running half marathons, playing catch at Dog Beach with his chocolate Labrador Shakespeare, hiking San Diego’s many scenic trails, surfing, attending home games for his favorite sports teams and spending time with his family and goddaughter. Chance’s passion for the ocean extends beyond catching a few waves as he is an active member of the Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego chapter, where he’s a Core Volunteer and member of the “Hold Onto Your Butts Campaign” committee. Senior Communications Strategist
Shae Geary is a seasoned professional with over 18 years experience representing world-class travel and hospitality PR clients. Formerly PR Director with Four Seasons Resorts and a consultant for a wide variety of resorts in California, Hawaii and Mexico, Shae began her career in Hawaii for six years with the state’s largest PR firm. Over the course of her career, Shae has spearheaded numerous campaigns involving everything from hotel openings and property renovations to anniversaries and special events. Her expertise in communications and all things hospitality includes a broad range of niche markets – spa, golf, recreation, weddings, dining, luxury, family and green travel. Shae holds a Bachelor degree from Arizona State University and Master degree in Mass Communications (with PR emphasis) from UC Santa Barbara. In her spare time Shae enjoys playing soccer, running training and spending time with her husband and two kids.
Sandra Wellhausen provides (W)right On’s client partners 14 years communication experience implementing strategic communication programs as well as producing award-winning publications and materials. Particularly experienced in communications for the healthcare, energy, nonprofit, water and infrastructure sectors, her experience runs the gamut of stakeholder relations strategies, social media, special events, advertising campaigns, website development, brand creation and more. Sandra holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree (magna cum laude) from San Diego State University, and is a recipient of the Communicator Award of Excellence; Bernay’s Award of Excellence; and the American Chamber of Commerce Executive Award. She is fluent in four languages, volunteers as a kindergarten art teacher, and enjoys photography and spending time with her family.
With more than 15 years of corporate and agency communications experience, Linda is a PR expert. She’s represented B2B and B2C organizations, including Sony Electronics, Musicmatch Yahoo!, EVS and the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. From tech and music to insurance and waste management, Linda’s industry knowledge runs the gamut. Having successfully managed, developed and executed national and international communications plans, Linda’s expertise includes consumer awareness campaigns, product launches, media training, issues and brand management, award submissions, media and analyst relations and writing. She’s elevated executives and companies into the spotlight; orchestrated blogger, influencer and media events; led product launches for major brands; written speeches; secured magazine covers; landed major speaking opportunities and led international tradeshow engagement. A graduate of California Polytechnic University with a B.S. in Journalism (cum laude), she enjoys paddle boarding, snowboarding, golfing, playing guitar and song writing. She lives with her husband, two kids, dog and 19-year old leopard gecko in San Diego.
With over four years of experience, Kara DeMent is known for her “out of the box” thinking and passion for the media industry. As Communications Strategist, she supports (W)right On’s hospitality, healthcare, land development, technology and non-profit clients. Before joining (W)right On, Kara served as a PR Assistant at a boutique PR firm and also supported communications in-house for the NBA’s Orlando Magic and LA Clippers. She graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with an emphasis in PR and Mass Communications. As a California native, she enjoys the beach, Disneyland trips, crafting and being outdoors.
Jr. Communications Strategist
Aisha brings a competitive advantage to the (W)right On team with her diverse background and seven years of experience including journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing and social media work. Her experiences in very different parts of the world including Salt Lake City, Utah and the island of Penang in Malaysia have challenged her to develop a range of cultural competencies. Her broad experience includes with with client partners in various industries such as healthcare, consumer, technology, hospitality, entertainment and government. After graduating high school at the age of 16, Aisha attended San Diego State University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and an emphasis in Public Relations. Her love for writing, culture, socializing and traveling comes together perfectly in her position at (W)right On.
KeAsha Rogers has over eight years of experience working for in-house brands, agencies and not-for-profits. She turns her experienced eye to client partners’ communications challenges and opportunities bringing their brands and stories to life visually from corporate identity work to compelling collateral materials.
KeAsha’s heart is in her purpose-driven work for (W)right On’s clients which she acquired during her prior experience working for nonprofits. She came to WOC after nearly two years as creative designer and digital marketing specialist for NPHS, a community development non-profit serving families in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles and San Diego with housing and financial services.
More than a designer, KeAsha is a strategist who pulls in research and her knowledge of today’s digital environment to produce result-oriented designs and creative print and web campaigns. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in visual communications in 2010 from Westwood College and also holds an associate’s degree in Network Systems Administration. Additionally, she is a veteran who served her country in the U.S. Army Reserves including deployments to Bosnia.
Lead Developer and Technical Resource
Phelan Riessen is a passionate web and graphic design artist with over 25 years of experience designing and building more than 60 websites for a variety of organizations. Skilled in fontography, web design, Photoshop and web marketing strategies; Phelan also holds a strong presence in the San Diego tech community by serving as an organizer of several large-scale events including RefreshSD, March Mingle and Startup Week.
Collin Chappelle is a visual storyteller with over 12 years’ experience shooting editorial, commercial and corporate projects, specializing in melding technique and craft to share client partner stories. His diverse experience ranges from community journalism, B2B storytelling and commercial advertising for such clients as Coca-Cola, the United States Marine Corps, AMWAY, Milk Life, NASCAR and many others. In combination with his expertise in cinematic composition & lighting, Collin shoots using the latest Canon digital still and cinema cameras and equipment tailored to each unique project. This includes 6K-capable cameras, aerial drone capability, and specialty lighting and sound equipment, all with the specific goal of elevating the filmic qualities of a client partners’ visuals. Collin holds Masters of Art in Commercial Photography from Savannah College of Art & Design and is a current member of the American Society of Media Photographers and American Photographic Artists.
Media Integration Specialist
Formerly with VisitBritain and Showtime Networks, Katrina Early provides (W)right On client partners’ integrated and creative partnerships with film and TV studios, retailers, and media outlets such as Sony Pictures, Universal, Warner brothers, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Entertainment Tonight to name a few. Experienced in the hospitality, travel, entertainment industries among others, Katrina coordinates all aspects of B2B industry events, as well as grows client partners’ audience social media engagement through highly sharable digital content. Results achieved include positive media placement in top tier outlets including: National Geographic, Robb Report, Forbes, USA Today, LA Times, NBC/Today Show, E! News, Extra, The Tonight Show, People and many others. Katrina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Public Relations from CSU Long Beach and a Master of Arts in Communications from the prestigious University of Southern California Annenberg School of Communication.
Director, Research & Analytics
As Director of Research & Analytics based out of (W)right On’s Vancouver office, Hamish leads (W)right On’s survey and stakeholder information gathering initiatives North America-wide. A former advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada, Provincial Premiers, City Mayors and dozens of elected officials, he also served in the government of Canada overseeing the quantitative and qualitative research activities of federal government agencies. With experience using every sort of data collection method to provide critical insights for strategic planning, marketing and other organizational activities, Hamish has worked with dozens of private and public sector client partners, including the world’s largest mining company. In 2004 he worked in radio business development in Kabul, Afghanistan, and he has volunteered in democracy building activities in Bangladesh and Jordan. Today, Hamish is frequently sought out by the media as expert commentator for national television, radio and print publications. Prior to joining (W)right On, Hamish worked as the Research Director for Angus Reid Public Opinion, conducting and performing analysis on surveys in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Oxford in England, a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from the University of Toronto and enjoys history, writing and sailing.
SEO and Digital Marketing Specialist
Andy Mansker leads digital marketing and SEO strategies for (W)right On’s client partners drawing on 20 years of digital and website experience. Andy began his career as an in-house web development manager in the late 1990s. He moved to managing all facets of internet development and consulting including eCommerce, database, marketing, email marketing and website builds. Today, he is focused on supporting online marketing needs from SEO to Adwords/PPC to help clients reach more customers more effectively.
